Acts 1:1-5 King James Version
1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.1 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Name the mountain where Jesus is to return
on His second coming?
Answer:
Mt. of Olives
Acts 1:9-12 King James Version
9.
And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a
cloud received him out of their sight.
After Jesus ascension the disciples where
warned by two angels to depart, and to set their minds upon his second coming
10.
And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men
stood by them in white apparel; 11. Which also said, Ye men of Galilee , why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same
Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as
ye have seen him go into heaven.
They accordingly return, and, giving
themselves to prayer, choose Matthias apostle in the place of Judas
12.
Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount
called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem
a sabbath day's journey. 13. And when they were come in, they went up into an
upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip,
and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon
Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 14. These all continued with one
accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of
Jesus, and with his brethren.

Introduction:
I
told you before we started talking about Father’s Day with our topic “Can You
Really Have a Family without the Father in the Midst?” that Acts recorded, and indicated to us that
it was Luke who wrote the book of Acts. The Book was the second of two volumes
that Luke wrote, the first being Luke’s Gospel. Here are the scriptures that
confirm this.
Luke 1-1-4 King James Version
1.
Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of
those things, which are most, surely believed among us, 2. Even as they
delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and
ministers of the word three. It seemed good to me also, having had perfect
understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order,
most excellent Theophilus, 4. That thou mightest know the certainty of those
things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
Acts 1:1-5 King James Version
In this portion of scriptures Christ is
preparing his apostles for his ascension into heaven. Jesus gathers them
together at the Mount Olivet , and commands them to go into Jerusalem for the sending down of the Holy
Ghost, a promises after a few days to send it, and then Jesus ascends into heaven right
before their very eyes.
1 The former treatise have I made, O
Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in
which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given
commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed
himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them
forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: 4 And,
being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart
from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye
have heard of me.1 5 For John truly
baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days
hence.
I also talked about how Luke had written Acts in first and third person; that Luke was
with Paul on some of his journeys.
First,
we need an intelligent understanding of the New Testament. From some of the
teaching I been hearing, especially concerning the work of the Holy Spirit, many
people do not have a very good understanding of the Holy Spirit or of the role
of the church. The book of Acts gives us a better understanding of the Holy
Spirit and how the church has affected World History through the power of the Holy Spirit to change lives and bring forth healing.
It
is in Acts that Luke places before us what the church is to be and do. Luke
explains to us the missions and the commission of the church. Luke begins by giving us the
mandate’s and the source, with the emphasizes on the divine power that is
needed to be apply in a manner consistent with its purpose or design, and Luke therefore portrays the power of the Holy Ghost, who
divinely worked in us and who brought
results in individual lives and in the dynamic fellowship that is in the church. Lack
of change is a lack of the Holy Spirit in the life of an individual or a corporate body of Believers. This is what Luke and Acts shows us. No change in a individual person or corporate body of believers means there is no Holy Spirit. You cannot be in the presences of the Lord and there not be a change in your behavior or character.
Luke
begins to explain to us the building of the church by the Holy Spirit, by giving
us a brief history of what happen prior to the empowering of the Holy Spirit. It
is important for us to understand and know that it is the power of the Holy
Spirit that empowers “give or delegate power or authority to the church”. We
need to understand that the church must complete the mandate to preach the
gospel over the whole world and to preach its truth and not our own. This is
what we have been given by the power of the Holy Spirit to do.
Preparation for Pentecost
Luke,
with divine skills, begins in Acts by getting us to look backwards; Luke lays
the groundwork for his second volume of historical narrative of the beginning
of the church, as we know it today. In this "beginning, in the beginning
of Acts" Luke centering on preparation for the coming of the empowering
Holy Spirit of the living God. We need to hear his claim that by the Spirit's
power the church will fulfill its mandate of preaching the gospel to the ends
of the earth. What a difference that will make in how we offer or receive this
message! However, I do not see the church talking about the Holy Spirit as much
and the sad part is this, there are many people who are preaching who do not
have the Holy Spirit and have not experience the power of the Holy Spirit in
working in their lives.
Jesus charges the disciples that they were to
be his witnesses to the ends of the earth.
Acts 1:8 King James Version
8. However, ye shall receive power, after that the Holy
Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem , and in all Judaea, and in Samaria , and unto the uttermost part of the
earth.
Luke 1:1-5 King James Version
1
Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of
those things which are most surely believed among us, 2 Even as they delivered
them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the
word; 3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all
things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent
Theophilus, 4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein
thou hast been instructed. 5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea , a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course
of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
Luke
wants us to know that this was a generous church and a growing church. This church was devoted to prayer and to the
teachings of the apostles. They feared the Lord and they had respect for the
laws of God. This was a generous and growing church. I have found that the
generous churches are the growing churches. I have told many a pastor that if
they wanted their church to grow that they needed to have a strong outreach. Many
of them are so egotistical they think all they need to do is to be able to preach and that their
preaching is some how going to win people over not if you do not have the power
of the Holy Ghost in it your preaching means nothing. How
are you going to win people over when you have not won God over? We win God
over by being generous and then we see the church grow in membership.
The
church in Act fear God, meaning they had respect for God. People today have no
respect for anything. No respect for life of the unborn from the womb. I found
out last week that there was also a tremendous disrespect for fatherhood now as
in the natural so it is in the Spiritual realm.
Meaning there is no respect for the Father. No
respect for nothing. No feelings of profound respect for someone or something.
It is not there. This fears; this respect for God and of God is why the early
church was able to see miracles. The lack of the fear for God is the reason the
church of today cannot see miracles of God.
Acts 9:34 King James Version
34.
And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and
make they bed. And he arose immediately,
What
we are seeing is the power of Jesus Christ, working through men after his
ascension.
I
feel God wants me to talk about the lack of fear for Him for a moment or
two.
Psalm 3:10 King James Version
The
fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they
that do his commandments: his praise endures forever.
We
don’t recall the Works of the Lord, we do not understand the providence, meaning
the guardianship and control exercised by a God towards this world. We don’t understand it and to make matters
worse we do not respect the idea that God is in control. What is so sad we see
death all around us yet we do not fear what is beyond that grave. We don’t know, or respect God’s covenants we
do not respect God’s promise or prophecies.
If they did our government would not be trying to give Israel land
away we would not be legalizing abortions, drugs and same sex marriages. God means what he says and He is mindful of
his covenant even if you and I are not. He gave that Land to Israel and He
made a covenant with them concerning it.
He does not care what you think He will keep His convent with them even
if it means United States
biting the dust.
Redemption
was given to Israel
first, now it is wrought for us only for a season. It is as foolish man woman, boy and girl and
most of all a dumb nation that forgets the covenants of God. It is the fear of the Lord that lead men and
women to repentance and it is a
compromising unbelieving church that
tries to try to take that fear away. Therefore,
the church thinks it can be saved by not repenting, not having fear of the Lord
thereby not acting wisely.
Proverbs 1:7 New International Version
The
fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 3: 5-6
“Trust
in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In
all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”
Proverbs 8: 32-35
32. Now
therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. 33.Hear
instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
34. Blessed
is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of
my doors. 35. For
whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD”
Instead
of the church teaching the nation being leaders, we are following and bringing the
ways of the world into the church. The
other night I was watching one teaching on T.B.N network and they had this girl preaching,
wearing natural color super skin tight tights and black nail polish.
Her appearance alone said to me; Holy Ghost is not done with her, and that it
was not her season to be preaching, yet T.B.N. were compromising because we have no
fear of the Lord, we do not know what are the signs that a person truly has the Holy Spirit and sanctification has taken place. I am going to stop here for right now.
